Gettysburg Blues

Gettysburg Blues

Reynolds Grave and Ghosts
On fields of blood and twisted limbs
They fired and ran and fought
Those men in wool both grey and blue
On those hot summer days
A terrible lead up to Independence Day
Meade and Lee commanded death
Cemetery Ridge was appropriate
Down they fell on Little Round Top
High above the Devil’s Den
Down through the Peach Orchard
All along the Wheatfield
The bodies of men marked
A path of dead flesh
Eight-thousand dead
Thirty-thousand wounded
Ten-thousand missing
All in three terrible days
Independence Day, July 4
Saw nothing but tears
No one really won
Everyone lost
They still walk
That Hallowed
Ground
